Choosing Golf Clubs For A Particular Game

Choosing the right club could be the most important part of your game of golf. If the technique of your stroke leaves something to be desired, then the right choice of a golf club may compensate for this very often. There are a lot of things that you may have to decide before making a choice of the golf club you want to play with. Once you begin, then you will see how to go ahead with the game and making a choice becomes part of that. Choosing the right golf club is one of the qualities of a skilled golfer and one of the ways of improving quickly, noticeably so in fact.

People who do not play golf regularly have a very difficult time believing that the 14 clubs that are in a golfer?s bag will at some point be handy. However, with practice and time and as you play on a regular basis you will get to know that there are different situations in which each club will need to be used. If you are a beginner then your golf bag must have irons, putters, wedges and drivers. Each of these is used a couple of times in every game and most of them are made to correct those strokes that are not perfect. Make sure that you choose clubs that fit in with your skill type and level of playing.

A golfer?s handicap will show what kinds of clubs he often carries in his bag. If a golfer scores about 10 strokes on an average that means his bag will look considerably different from that of another golfer whose score is 100 strokes on an average (this may sound ridiculous but it is fairly the standard score of someone who is new to golf). Golfers who belong to this category will carry more woods than irons, because woods provide a very high level of accuracy. Golfers who have a high skill level will carry clubs that will be less helpful in rectifying the mistakes and help in sending the ball rocketing in whichever direction it is sent to. This is one reason why golfers who are beginners take a skill level that is higher to master.

Adjustable clubs or hybrid clubs are also useful for beginners who are not so well versed with the game and who do not have a hold on their playing style. Hybrid clubs are those clubs that are between irons and woods. These clubs provide accuracy because of their short lengths and provide absolute distance with their heads that are especially designed for this purpose and are light and hollow. These clubs are unique and it takes some time to get used to them. Make sure to try out one at the store before you actually buy it and you will realize that it will add a new zeal to your game.

All these clubs are very vital for getting you to the golf course and to the hole. You should pay a lot of attention to a lot of things before you choose your golf clubs and make your game more enjoyable.

What is Cholesterol?

March 30th, 2009

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy, fatty substance produced by the liver. It s a normal part of every cell into  our bodies and is needed by the body to produce hormones and nerve cells. Like almost everything, some is necessary but excess can be dangerous. Cholesterol is carried in our blood by combining with protein to form Lipoproteins.  There are two types of  lipoproteins, high density lipoproteins or HDL and low density lipoproteins or LDL.

HDL is termed ” good cholesterol ” because it gathers up the  excess LDL and carries it back to the liber to be eliminated.

LDL is called ” bad cholesterol because it is the substance that can clog our arteries.  When blood cholesterol levels remain high for a period of time the cholesterol will stick to the artery walls making them narrower. It is harder for the blood to get through this smaller space so the heart must pump harder to push the blood around the body. This raises the blood pressure. The rough surfaces in the artery walls caused by cholesterol  deposits can cause the blood to clot.  These blood clots can easily stick in the narrower blood vessels blocking the flow of blood.

Triglycerides are another fatty substance found n the bloodstream, like LDL, high levels of triglycerides can increase a person’s risk of developing heart disease.

What is a normal cholesterol level?

Cholesterol levels change throughout our lives due to changes in eating habits and activity levels.

Desirable cholesterol levels for most people are

Total cholesterol:         5.2 mmol/l
LDL              below     3.4 mmol/l
HDL              above     0.9 mmol/l
triglycerides   below     2.3 mmol/l

Diagnosis

High cholesterol can only  be identified through blood tests.  There are no symptoms to indicate that your cholesterol levels are high.Cholesterol levels should be checked during your regular physical check-up.  The more risk factors you have for having high cholesterol the more the important it is to have your cholesterol checked.  As we age it becomes more  important to have cholesterol levels checked. Women become as susceptible to high cholesterol levels as men after menopause.

Rick factors for high cholesterol levels.

  • Family History
This is the man factor in determining your cholesterol level
  • Disease
Diseases such as diabetes, thyroid, kidney or liver disease may cause high cholesterol levels.
  • Smoking
Smoking tends to decrease your HDl and increases the rate at which fatty deposits form on artery walls.
  • Inactivity
Besides helping your hear, lings and blood vessels work better, physical activity also increases our HDl level.
  • Excess Body Weight
Reducing excess body weight reduces the strain on your hear and may increase HDL or “  good cholesterol “
  • High fat Diet
The body can make cholesterol from fats, Diets  high in saturated fats will therefore increase cholesterol levels. High intakes of trans fatty acids can also increase  cholesterol levels.

Panic Attacks

March 16th, 2009

Ever experience a sudden, unexpected feeling of fear, terror, intense apprehension or discomfort? It could be a panic attack. Here’s how to know for sure.

Although panic attacks (also known as anxiety attacks) aren’t in themselves dangerous or a sign of illness, they sometimes cause people to avoid situations or events — and that can interfere with their quality of life.

Key characteristics of a panic attack

Panic attacks are distinct from general feelings of anxiety or stress because they:

  • Occur suddenly, without warning
  • Usually last 20-30 minutes, and rarely more than an hour
  • Peak within 10 minutes
  • Are very intense

Symptoms you may experience

During a full-blown panic attack, you’ll experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty catching your breath, or sensation of being smothered
  • Feeling of choking
  • Rapid heart rate, palpitations or pounding heart
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Dizziness, unsteadiness, lightheadedness or feeling faint
  • Nausea or stomach distress
  • Fear of losing control or going crazy
  • Chills or hot flashes
  • Sweating
  • Feeling of unreality of being detached from yourself
  • Feeling as though you are having a heart attack or even dying

Since these symptoms could be the warning signs of another condition, you should consult your doctor before you self diagnose. And if you are prone to panic attacks, talk to your doctor about possible treatments.
